The Basin Peoples, as they're now known in modern demography, are those Indi who left Cindo Sirian after they learned bending. Their name derives from the Great Sea Basin, an area comprised of all land surrounding the Great Sea in which rivers funnel out towards that sea and not any other. This umbrella term encompassed varying cultures, and the term is really only applicable for a few decades, as the increased expansion and isolation of these areas became so prominent that we identify them as distinct cultures since about 120 DA.

People from the Porthoi clan, and therefore from the Dragonhead Dominion, were named the Children of the Juni, as they saw themselves as pupils of much older and wiser creatures. Those from the Realm of Ravenal were known as the Peoples of the Ravenvale, indicative of the valley that encompasses most of Ravenal. Those from Lavinsic and Lailo were known as Sernia, the adjective describing something from Sernian.

Additional realms were slowly founded in this time period. In the first century, it was typical that realms would be founded immediately after mass migrations. In the second century, however, migrations became commonplace and gradual. Several groups of people from various realms and areas branched off and settled in new towns, and it took some of these collections of towns many years to unite under one flag. One example is the Kingdom of Starcath, which formed from various disparate villages in the Tilthinex, the Great Forest of the western Great Sea. This new kingdom, founded by a man named Even Starcath (AY-ven STAR-cath), imposed new authority and order over the villages.

Meanwhile on Cindo Sirian, a large city was gradually developing from a small town, one that became a hub for all Indi in and around the Great Sea. It became known as Loth Sirian, and by 140 DA it was the largest and wealthiest city in the world without dispute. A man from one of the remaining clans on Cindo Sirian, Doric Diothon, founded the Great Sea Realm, which claimed many islands across the Great Sea as under the jurisdiction of House Diothon. The inhabitants of Loth Sirian, Lothsiriai, colonized the islands of the Great Sea and some of the surrounding lands. They built a temple around the Ancient Flame, a hearth that has supposedly been burning since the beginning of the world, as well as several other temples to various deities and several castles.

The city of Loth Zaxagom was older than Loth Sirian, but it never truly overcame its natural setbacks in its environs, so many Zaxagomai would migrate to other areas of the Red Lands. Zaxagom became a sprawling civilization with many focal points, so it was not very centralized. It spread across the deserts and savannas like wind, and while this gave Zaxagom ample territory, it was not easy to exert authority over a territory of that size.

The Despots of Zaxagom, who were direct descendants of Zaxagh, fell out of favor, as they seemed only to care about themselves and their lavish lifestyles. During the reign of Darozys II, a child Despot who cared too little for ruling his realm, a coup d'état occurred, which briefly unseated Darozys as the leader of the realm in favor of a group of powerful aristocrats. The aristocrats then in charge of the vast realm decided to keep tradition by allowing Darozys to remain Despot of Zaxagom, but keep actual power in the hands of the Councils of Zaxagom. These councils were convened every few years to create laws and deal with important issues, and membership was restricted to the aristocracy. The Councils at first did well to rule Zaxagom, but they eventually became corrupt.

Doric Diothon died in 160 DA, and his son, also named Doric, succeeded him as Steward of the Great Sea Realm. This set a precedent of primogeniture inheritance not only in House Diothon, but in all houses in the realm. Doric II carried on his father's legacy of expanding the reach of the Lothsiriai. This distinct culture of the spreading Lothsiriai became known as the culture of the Sea Peoples, which is still very much alive today. Doric looked eastwards and saw the Kingdom of Lavinsic poorly defending a mountainous region known as the Noricfold. He recognized this as the time to strike, and with a swift mobilization of people who volunteered to fight for him and for the realm, he declared Indigon's first international war. The people of Lavinsic knew little of the ways of war, so the Noricfold quickly became part of the Great Sea Realm.

Doric II decided to delegate some governing duties to trusted friends and allies, so he created four Margraviates, or border states that served as a buffer between the outside and the heart of the realm, one for each cardinal direction: the Margraviate of the East comprised the newly conquered Noricfold, and the governorship of that area was given to a local family called House Noric, which had controlled the area under the jurisdiction of Lavinsic for many years. The other three margraviates will become important in the next century.

When Doric II died, his son Eloric I ascended to the throne, and House Noric rebelled against the Diothons. The Norics received support from the Kingdom of Lavinsic, even drafting a marriage alliance with them, as well as the Queendom of Lailo. Because the fledgling Great Sea Realm was outnumbered, it relinquished the Margraviate of the East to a new independent Noric Kingdom.

The marriage alliance between the King of the Noric Realm and Queen of Lavinsic proved beneficial when a child of House Noric inherited both crowns. His name was Tasinthic II, and he began a Noric tradition of attempting to wed other reigning monarchs in order to combine houses and realms. He even married the Queen of Lailo to cement his hold over Sernian.

Over time, the rulers of these realms become more cunning and ruthless, learning the best ways to manipulate others and retain their power. This commonplace ruthlessness culminates in carnage in the next century, sometimes called The Doom Century.

Kozhikode is a coastal city in the south Indian state of Kerala. It was a significant spice trade center and is close to Kappad Beach, where Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama landed in 1498. The central Kozhikode Beach, overlooked by an old lighthouse, is a popular spot for watching the sunset. Inland, tree-lined Mananchira Square, with its musical fountain, surrounds the massive Mananchira Tank, an artificial pond.
